Message	than 10 years old. My car was "totaled" via insurance standards in '03 due to engine hydrolock. I got 9k for it (it was stock w/ 118k on it) and got to keep the car. Would've been only about a grand more if they kept the car. I replaced the engine and upgraded some other parts and still had a couple thousand left over. Might check your state's laws at the BMV.
